  • TitanSeal powder Shaft seals should not be installed on severely worn equipment.  If shaft is severly worn with grooves from packing it will require repair or replacement for the TitanSeal to operate correctly and efficiently.
  • Care is required during installation NOT to overtighten, the spring tension ring should be adjusted finger tight, only adjusted in 1/4 turn increments if required.
  • TitanSeal is mounted to the vessel wall using 15 to 20 foot pounds of torque
  • Test perpendicularity with square, TitanSeal shaft seals must be square to the shaft within 1/16 inch.  If necessary level seal with shims or a gasket.
  • Apply "THIN" bead of RTV sealant between vessel wall and inboard mounting plate.  NO ozzing of RTV Sealant should be present, make certain NO RTV Sealant has seeped internally to the TitanSeal.
  • Once TitanSeal is secured in position, retighten spring tension ring, three finger tight,  DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN
  • Install air purge guage at  labeled port, set  the purge pressure at 5-10 psi above any internal vessel pressure.  Purge should be detectable at the lip of the 316SS endplate, if no purge detected, increase the purge pressure or loosen the spring tension ring, at 1/4 turn increments.
  • Use clean dry air, or Silicone based grease.
  • If any product leakage is detected, adjust (tighten) the spring tension clamp with 1/4 rutn increments. or increase purge.
  • Test TitanSeal for any heat at outboard endplate, if heat is present loosen spring tension ring  and check perpendicularity of seal to shaft.
  •
  • Routine checks of seal is suggested, as the rotor assembly will seat itself upon operation. this will be evidenced by a slight flaking of the teflon.  The spring tension ring  should be adjusted at 1/4 to1/2 turn increments.  This will compress the elastomer slightly causing it to spread laterally, maintaining correct pressure/tension between the stationary and rotating faces.
